Women And Agitated Youths Seize Control Of The Edo APC Secretariat

A group of young people and women have stormed the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Edo State, Benin, demanding the removal of the state executives, who are under the leadership of acting Chairman Jarret Tenebe.

The way the party's governorship primary election was handled last Saturday left the younger generation and women unhappy. Three people had won the poll.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, the chairman of the primary's electoral committee, had proclaimed Dennis Idahosa the winner. Stanley Ugboaja, the returning officer, however, announced Monday Okpebholo the victor.

Another development was the declaration by Ojo Babatunde, purporting to be a representative of the returning officers in each local government area, that Anamero Dekeri had won the election.

The protest leader, Tony Adun, the party's youth leader in the state, declared on Monday that the state executive branch ought to be abolished. The youths would be there for seven days, he said.

He declared: “We are here in solidarity with Dennis Idahosa who the party has nominated. We call on party members to back Idahosa's candidacy in the governorship election in September.

“As you can see, we are here in large numbers, youths and women, to show our displeasure over the way the exco handled the election.”
