New Naira Notes: After ICPC arrest, EFCC interrogates actress Simi Gold

Omoseyin ‘Simisola Gold’ Oluwadarasimi

Actress Simi Gold was questioned by the EFCC for “spraying and stepping on the new Naira notes,” hours after the ICPC arrested her.

Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, an actress and cosmetologist, is the subject of an investigation by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's Lages Zonal Command. The allegations stem from her purported involvement in tampering with the redesigned Naira notes, which is against Section 21(5) of the Central Bank of Nigeria's CBN Act, 2007.

She was arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Fraud Related Offences Commission, ICPC, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 along Awolowo Road, kayi, Lagos, following intelligence report.

The 31-year-old was taken into custody following the internet release of a video showing her stepping on and dousing newly redesigned Naira notes during a party. She was also seen showing off wads of the brand-new Naira notes in the widely shared video.

The suspect was subsequently handed ever to the EFCC on Thursday, February 2, 2023 for further investigations. Items recovered from her at the point of arrest include a Range Rover and iPhone mobile devices.

The suspect will be charged to court once investigations have been concluded.
