Angry Youths Seize Control Of The Party Secretariat And Demand Idahosa Edo APC Governorship Flag Bearer
Dennis Idahosa |
The All Progressives Congress, or APC, crisis that rocked the Edo State chapter over the conduct of Saturday's governorship primary intensified on Monday when irate youths took control of the party's state secretariat.
Three candidates are said to have emerged from the party's primary to represent it in the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Following their appearance as candidates in separate primaries, Dennis Idahosa, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Anamero Sunday Dekeri are all vying for the party's ticket for the governorship election
Threatening to fire the party's State Working Committee, which is chaired by acting chairman Jarrett Tenebe, the party youths stormed the secretariat.
The young people broke into the secretariat, took out furniture, bags of rice, and other supplies, and made a seven-day commitment to remain there.
Tony Adun, also known as Kabaka, led the youths who denounced the behavior of the party officials overseeing the primaries.
“We are protesting against the conduct of the officials at Saturday's primary election of the party which threw up three winners,” Kabaka said.
He declared that until the State Working Committee approved of Honorable Dennis Idahosa's candidacy, they would remain on the property.
Barrister Peter Uwadia, the party's Edo State Publicity Secretary, responded, “I am not in a position to react now, when contacted. When I have all the information, I will respond.”
