FG Shuts Part Of 3rd Mainland Bridge For 24 Hours
Third Mainland Bridge will be repaired for 24 hours starting at midnight on February 18
The Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos end of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will be closed to motorists for 24 hours beginning from midnight on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
The Third Mainland Bridge will be closed for 24 hours by the Federal Government for traffic traveling from Liyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island. The closure will take place starting at midnight on Sunday, February 18, and ending at midnight on Monday, February 19.
The emergency measure was announced on Saturday night by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State. She stated that the goal of the measure is to address the critical repairs that are required on a section of the bridge.
She said that during the full 24-hour closure, drivers heading from the Island towards Oworonshoki would have unimpeded access to the bridge.
“Notification of 24 Hours Closure of lyana-Oworonshoki - Lagos Island Bound Traffic From 12.00 a.m on Sunday February 18th to 12.00 am on Monday February, 19, 2024.
“The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works wish to inform the motoring public that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will not be available for 24 hours for motorists from lyana Oworonshoki- Lagos Island bound.
“Traffic resumes on Monday by 12.00 a.m on this bound.
“However, motorists coming out of the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki will have full access throughout the 24 hours closure.
“The temporary 24 hours closure of the lyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound traffic is to enable the ministry carry out effective repairs on an important section of the bridge.” Kesha said.
Additional Details
While the bridge is closed for repairs for twenty-four hours, drivers are urged to look for alternate routes, heed traffic authorities' instructions, and show patience with government representatives.
Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS, Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter bridge-CMS, and Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS are the recommended detours for drivers during the repair period.
