Consider whether you are not placing too high of expectations on President Tinubu says Fashola, a former minister of works

According to Babatunde Fashola, a former governor of Lagos state, Nigerians expect too much from their presidents.

The former minister of the Buhari administration stated in a recent interview that went viral that the president is not constitutionally obligated to handle matters like water, housing rent, sanitation, and other issues.

In his words; “Are we expecting too much from the President? What constitutional role does the President have with regards to things that affect the majority of the people? Water Supply, Sanitation, getting a business permit, paying rent? Those are things that are not the responsibilities of the Nigerian President.”

However, many Nigerians have responded to his comment in different ways. While many concur with him, others contend that the President's desk is where the nation's welfare ends.

“The President main responsibility is to supervise what is happening in the country. Like telling parents not to bring the children they cannot feed into the world, checkmate the immediate government officials and assist them in providing the people's noods and making his country le Nigeria great in the community of nations.”
