Senate President Godswill Akpabio has come under heavy criticism for saying some of the street protests against hardship is sponsored.

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has drawn criticism for remarks he made that suggested some of the demonstrations against the nation's rising cost of living were sponsored.

Protests against the current state of economic hardship have taken place across the nation, including in Kano, Ibadan, Niger, and Sokoto.

Speaking on the upper legislative chamber floor on Tuesday, Akpabio claimed that the demonstrators were ignorant of the federal government's and the Senate's attempts to address the situation.

Since then, Akapbio's statement has generated a range of responses on social media.

@Morris Monye “Akpabio does not really know what is going on with the masses.

“Not in touch with reality on ground.

Detached.”

@AlexOla2407 “Even if he knows, he definitely does not care. APC is a party of ruins, drunk in desire for power, consumed with their different goals and far from reality. The Nigerian populace is the least of their challenges.”

@Emekaigwe96They all know what's going on but they'll always choose to preténd not to know.”

@rebeccaNneka He is irredeemable and he's been actually busy serving his masters.”

@_The12th ManCfc The Senate president has a constituency right because how's he far from the truth or is he just been mischievous?”

@bethelabioke “I disagree. He is very much in the know. He's mocking Nigerians. I'm sure he has a good laugh with his Senator friends over plates of nkwobi and peppersoup after the utterances he makes.”

@michaelosadolo1“They still dont know what the actual problem is so how do you want them to solve it. The problem is purchasing power. Simple English no money to spend cos the prices are high and these are because of government policies.”

@MarthaOnoriode “Does he even know his role in government as the Head of the Legislative arm of government who should critic where necessary the Executive or Judiciary arm?”

@Chukalwuh “Akpabio has never for once been in touch with reality at any point of his political career.”

@MelaChukwudi “That's how an average rich man in nigeria is wired.

“They lose touch about 3-5 years when they become rich.

“But that's cool.”

@PShuah “How can someone that gets over half a billion know what's going on.”

@lykeinkay “They can never know & will only know when the hungry lions start hunting them & their security aids before they'll be aware of the reality on ground. By then it will be too late.”

@Jefe_says “It's govt that foots all their bills even down to newspaper they read, so they don't know price of tomatoes, or transport fare or anything else. Only Nigerians can save their country by using violence to chase away these politicians.”
