Barr Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to his arrest by Zone 5 of the Nigerian Police Force, which occurred just two days before the party primary in Edo.

Channels Television was informed by Tijani Momoh, a police zone spokesman, that Abure and the others were freed on bond on Thursday morning at around two in the morning.

In response to the development, Abure thanked supporters and party members for their support throughout the trial in a now-viral video.

“Many countries of the world where freedom fighters have fought for the emancipation of the people. Freedom fighters suffer injustice and persecution. It is what has been happening to me and my other colleagues since after the general election.

“After the (2023) general elections, they have tried to instigate crisis in the party. They tried to bring false accusations against us. They instigate aggrieved members of the party to write petitions and cause trouble (in the party).

“And the irony is that the Police always discover that those things are false after investigating them,” he revealed.

Abure was detained for attempted murder, unlawful gun possession, and other offenses, according to earlier statements from the police.

Momoh had informed reporters that Abure and four other people had been taken into custody due to a petition that had been filed against them by a person he did not identify.
