Cross River Government Warns Of Outbreak Of Haemorrhagic Fever

Residents in Cross River are cautioned about a possible outbreak of hemorrhagic fever

Cross River issued a warning on Saturday regarding a potential viral hemorrhagic fever outbreak in the state's old Ndebeji, in the Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Any group of infectious diseases that prevent blood from clotting is known as viral hemorrhagic fever.

Contact with animals, humans, or insects carrying the infection can spread them. Ebola and yellow fever are two examples.

The Ndebeji healthcare center's suspected index case is presently being investigated in total isolation, according to Commissioner of Health Henry Ayuk, who made the announcement in Calabar.

The state's epidemiologist and her team, he said, had been ordered to collaborate with the local government team in order to gather samples from suspected cases in order to make a diagnosis.

He said;

They will also work with community leaders to identify and restrict movements of known contacts till the sample results of the suspected index client are out and entrench risk communication in the community.

I must note that cases are most likely to present early with fever, rash, body weakness, bleeding from body openings or may even be asymptomatic.

Mr. Ayuk urged locals to stay away from rodents and insect bites, and if they must come into contact with livestock, other animals, or zoos, he added, they should wear personal protective equipment.
