Video captures the instant flames burst from a Boeing 747, forcing an emergency landing in Miami

Shortly after takeoff, an Atlas Air Boeing 747 burst into flames, and horrifying video shows the horrific scene.

A few minutes after taking off from Miami International Airport, the cargo plane's engine failed, causing the jet to catch fire in midair and necessitate an emergency landing. The left wing of the aircraft is seen catching fire in the startling video.

The $400 million aircraft took off from Miami Airport at 10.32 p.m., but FlightAware reports that minutes later, at 10.46 p.m., it was forced to circle back over the city due to enormous sparks that were visible coming from the aircraft. An eyewitness from Miami documented the instant the plane caught fire and flew over the water.

They saw the horrible fire and promptly called Miami Dade County Emergency. Authorities thanked the eyewitness for alerting them. The terrifying event occurred just a few days after the business announced that it would intensify quality checks of its 737 Max 9 planes in response to an emergency exit door panel malfunction on an Alaska Airlines flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement on Friday that it will look into the most recent incident on an Atlas Air flight. The FAA is already looking into Boeing following an Alaska Airlines flight that had to make an emergency landing this month due to a door plug falling off the fuselage in midair.

Flight 5Y095 to Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico “landed safely after experiencing an engine malfunction shortly after departure from Miami International Airport,” the airlines said in a statement.

“The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA. At Atlas, safety is always our top priority and we will be conducting a thorough inspection to determine the cause,” Atlas Air said. The plane took off at 10:22 p.m. ET Thursday and returned to Miami at 10:30 p.m., the FAA said.
