Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been allowed to leave Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

On Thursday, January 18, Emefiele showed up in court to request a change to his bail requirements.

Nonetheless, the court ordered him to stay in the nation because his original bail conditions limited him to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Emefiele was initially restricted to the Federal Capital Territory by the bail conditions, but these terms are being reviewed as part of the current proceedings.

Through his attorney, Mathew Bukka, Emefiele entered the plea. Emefiele is on trial for six counts of procurement fraud totaling N1.2 billion.

On December 23, 2023, the troubled former CBN governor was freed from the Kuje Correctional Center.
