Drug Abuse Fuelling Rising Insecurity In Plateau, Says Mutfwang
The growing level of insecurity in the Plateau is caused by drug abuse, according to Governor Mutfwang
Mr Mutfwang said that the killings were a reflection of the behaviour of drug-induced youths, stressing that their business of peddling illicit drugs must come to an end.
Caleb Mutfwang, the executive governor of Plateau state, has stated that increased levels of insecurity in the state are partly caused by drug abuse.
On January 23, there were new attacks on communities in Mangu LGA that resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people, including women and children.
Due to the attack, the state government was forced to implement a curfew that runs from dusk to dawn, and security agencies are tasked with apprehending the attackers.
During a Friday, January 26, visit to the LGA, Mutfwang stated that the deaths are a result of drug abuse and that the sale of illegal drugs needs to stop.
According to him, “Of course, there was the involvement of drugs; this is something we must tackle to be able to address the issues of the dryg menace in our society.
“This is why we want to use this medium to tell those in drug business to know that their time on the Plateau is up; we will not tolerate it any longer.
“We will go after them, and if they have anywhere they want to do their business, Plateau is certainly not the place.”
