Bello Matawalle, a former governor and current minister of state for defense, reportedly gave up 50 cars to the Zamfara government

According to the Zamfara State Government, it has recovered fifty operational vehicles that Bello Matawalle, the state's most recent governor, is said to have taken away

A spokesman for Governor Dauda Lawal briefed reporters on Thursday in Gusau, Sani Sambo. He stated that the action came about as a result of the ruling made last Friday by a Federal High Court in Sokoto.

He said that the cars were retrieved from the former governor's homes in Gusau and Maradun, who had earlier denied owning any government property as he was leaving office, after following the correct procedures.

According to Sambo, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal is making every effort to achieve the intended development in the state, not to persecute or malign any individual.

The controversy surrounding the theft of operational vehicles from the Government House in Gusau and the embezzlement of public funds began when Lawal assumed office as governor of Zamfara on May 29, 2023. As a result, security agencies raided the two homes of Matawalle in the local governments of Maradun and Gusau, recovering some vehicles.

Prior to the state government taking any further action, the former governor swiftly obtained a court order restraining it, pending the court's decision.

The state government says that the former governor's lawsuit against it was dismissed by the Sokoto court.
