Yaba Psychiatric Hospital Records 100% Admission Increase
Yaba's Neuropsychiatric Hospital reports a 100% rise in admissions for 2023—CMD Owoeye
The number of psychiatric patients admitted to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Yaba increased by 100% in 2023, according to hospital records.
This was revealed on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in Lagos during the Annual Score Card presentation by the hospital's Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye.
He claims that the rise in admission cases is related to the nation's increasing number of mental health cases, which are a result of the present economic difficulties along with other socioeconomic factors.
He said, “It can be deduced that in 2023, the total number of all patients attendance increased by three per cent. There was a seven per cent increase in new cases attended, compared to no increase in 2022.
“We also have a 100% increase in admission cases in which the drug abuse cases is 10 per cent increase and discharge cases is reduced by 10 per cent.”
