UNICAL Reverses Fee Increase Following Student Protest
The students reacted to the announcement on Monday by staging a heavy protest that halted academic and official activities at the university
The Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has directed that the new fees introduced by the institution be put on hold until further notice.
Following an emergency meeting on December 1, Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has ordered the suspension of the higher fees.
Students staged a protest after the university's management first approved an increase in tuition.
The vice chancellor commeded the students' calm and collected handling of the situation and said that the administration of the university is dedicated to finding a constructive way to work with them to resolve the issue.
The vice chancellor said: “The management of this institution is a listening administration.
“We want to assure the students as critical stakeholders that appropriate arrangements have been put in place through constructive engagements with the students to resolve the matter.
“The management, however, commends the students for the mature, reasonable, and civilized manner exhibited towards resolving the matter.”
