Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged youths to mobilise and make it uncomfortable for old leaders to remain in power

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has urged young people in Nigeria to reject the status quo. On Thursday, November 30, 2023, he made this revelation at the Bridge Foundation's Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship program.

The older statesman urged the youth to be positively disruptive in order to seize control of the government immediately, while emphasizing the necessity for them to make those who need to be made uncomfortable.

In his advice, “the youth” in Nigeria ought to run for office and should not claim that they are too young to do so at the age of 55.

“You are the leaders of today, if you don't take it now, you will never get it. You have to be positively disruptive, don't accept things the way they are. You need to make those who need to be made uncomfortable.

“If you can't run, what time do you have to run? You have to be positively disruptive but not through violence. If they call you leaders of tomorrow, don't accept it. If you don't get it now, you will never get it. How do you need to make those to make uncomfortable uncomfortable? That's the solution,” he said.

He asserts that despite their imperfections, the elder generation battled for the nation's independence, democracy, and cohesion.

Also he cautioned the youths not to lose sight of their political goals, stating that if Nigerian leadership is done well, the nation may transform for the better in two years.

Obasanjo insisted that Nigeria needed shared wealth and security, and he added that people should take a lesson from the nation's past.
