Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has harshly attacked Bola Ahmed Tinubu's allegedly excessively inflated delegation to the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai.

Atiku questioned Tinubu's delegation's size and composition in a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, alleging that Tinubu was unaware of the gravity of Nigeria's economic problems.

Atiku questioned why an assembly of over 1,400 delegates was being turned into a “jamboree, all-comers, and 'owambe' party” instead of addressing climate change.

He called the scenario absurd and a sign of a government style devoid of consciousness and accountability.

With more than 1,400 delegates, Atiku questioned the logic of turning a climate change conference into a “jamboree, all-comers, and ‘owambe’ party.”

He said that the state of affairs was absurd and showed how careless and ignorant the government style was.

The statement emphasized the dire economic conditions that Nigeria is currently facing and the necessity for leaders to match their actions to the resources at their disposal.

The objective of COP28 is to improve lives, clean air, nutritious food, and a secure future. Atiku questioned the use of borrowed cash for what he called a “street party” hosted outside the country, drawing attention to this and the alleged expensive delegation.

“The economic dire straits that Nigeria is facing demand that its leaders cut their coats according to the cloth available,” the statement read, emphasizing the necessity for a more prudent and responsible approach to governance and resource utilization.

The criticism of the purported resource mismanagement and the size of the Nigerian delegation at COP28 is becoming louder with Atiku's comments.
