Governor Hope Uzodinma wins 540,308 votes, sweeping all 27 LGAs in the 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election
All Progressives Congress (APC) governor Hope Uzodimma was proclaimed the victor of Saturday's gubernatorial election after garnering victories in each of Imo State's 27 local government districts.
The winner was declared on Sunday, November 12, around 10:07 a.m. Samuel Anyanwu, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, received 71,503 votes, far fewer than the governor's 540,308 total.
Athan Achonu, the candidate for the Labour Party, garnered 64,081 votes, placing him in third place. In Owerri, the state capital, results collation began on Sunday at around two in the morning.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared that although eighteen parties entered candidates for the election, All Progressives Congress governor Hope Uzodimma emerged victorious in each of the state's twenty-seven local government districts.
Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the State Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti in the state of Ekiti, thereafter declared an hour-long break to facilitate the computation of the final results. Subsequently, the election winner will be formally announced.
Callistus the Jiagwa, the state agent for the Labour Party, was physically assaulted and ejected from the collation center earlier today for objecting to the results that the Returning Officers from the local government regions were announcing. Kissinger Ikeokwu, the state representative for the Peoples Democratic Party, fled the scene after the attack. On Saturday night, the PDP and Labour Party candidates demanded that the poll be canceled, accusing the APC of manipulating the results with the help of INEC and security personnel.
