Basket Of Tomatoes Costs Skyrockets N58,000 In Kwara
The price of tomatoes unexpectedly increased on Sunday, shocking locals and business owners in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
When discussing the happenings at Mandate Market with our correspondent, Mrs. Abdullahi Latifat noted that the circumstances were too difficult for the family to handle.
"Last week, the smallest bowl of tomatoes cost about N300, but now it costs N1,000. A large basket that once cost roughly N20,000 has increased to between N57,000 and N58,000.
A small basketball of tomatoes was sold for N17,000, according to Mon DIARIES, as opposed to N4,000 before Eid el-Fitr and N10,000 before and after the holiday.
Mrs. Arinola claimed that because of the item's soaring price, she had to rearrange her budget before visiting the market.
Malam Hanas, a merchant, explained the price increase as a result of the season's ebbing and flow and warned that things could become worse starting on Monday (today).
Another vendor, Mallam Surajdeen, claimed that a tiny basketball that once cost roughly N1,000 is now worth N4,000 or more.
He claimed that the predicament, over which they have no control, had hurt sales.
