Abiodun Tobun Declares His Intention To Run For Lagos Speaker And Challenges Obasa To Take The Seat
The Epe State Constituency I representative, Honourable Abiodun Tobun, has announced his desire to run against the incumbent, Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, for the position of Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, giving the contest a new dimension.
The first politician in Lagos State to be elected for six terms in a row is Obasa, who represents the Agege constituency.
He entered the House for the first time in 2003 and has remained there ever since, becoming Speaker in 2015.
Following his reelection in 2023 for a sixth term, Obasa assumed the position of Speaker of the House once more.
Tobun announced his desire to run during the induction ceremony for newly elected members, which was held at the Marriott Hotel, GRA, Ikeja last week. He also informed the Speaker in office of his plan to run.
"While many were surprised, some of the lawmakers weren't. Speculations that Tobun will run for the number one lawmaker seat in the state has been on for long before the man declared his intention last week."
"Tobun himself is not a small fry in the House. The incoming 10th Assembly will be his fourth consecutive term in the House having made his debut in 2011."
