EPL: "I'M WORRIED ABOUT CHELSEA," SAYS WENGER FOLLOWING THE BLUES' DEFEAT TO REAL MADRID
Chelsea's new ownership, according to the former Arsenal manager, has already made a significant mistake by committing to such a large transfer investment so quickly.
Wenger made the comments following Chelsea's terrible run of form this season, which has seen them exit all cup competitions and finish 11th in the Premier League rankings.
Wenger stood by as Real Madrid defeated Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate to knock them out of the Champions League last night.
"I would say I'm worried for Chelsea," Wenger said on beIN Sport.
"I prefer somebody invests £500m but over five years £100m, because you can really change the team.
"But if you don't invest the £500m well, then you have a real problem for the future.
"They haven't invested well, no. That is basically their problem today."
Because of financial fair play, most of the new players signed by Todd Boehly and Co are handed 6-8 year contracts, but Wenger believes this is a bad idea and a huge risk, adding that the players may not perform well at the club.
"If the player is not right you have to pay the player for eight years, it's a huge burden for the future, it's a massive risk," he added.
