MOURINHO BLASTS UEFA FOR DEMOTING CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TEAMS
Jose Mourinho, the manager of AS Roma, blasted UEFA for dropping some Champions League teams into the Europa League.
When a Champions League side is ousted from the continent's premier competition, Mourinho suggested UEFA should not move them to the Europa League but rather allow them to return home.
The former Chelsea manager also said that teams eliminated from the Champions League winning the Europa League this year would be pointless.
The Portuguese made this statement after AS Roma and Real Sociedad drew 0-0 in the second leg of the round of 16 Europa League match on Thursday.
Remember that this season, teams like Manchester United, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, and Sporting Lisbon were all demoted to Europe's second-tier competition from the Champions League.
Mourinho said in a Sky Sport Italy interview: "There are teams there who, in my view, should not be there. If they are eliminated from a competition, they should go home!
"So if the Europa League is won by a side [Man United, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting Lisbon] that went out of the Champions League, then it will be meaningless to me."
Following the draw on Friday, Mourinho's team will play Feyenoord in the Europa League quarterfinal matchup the following month.
