HUSHPUPPI'S PRISON RECORDS SHOW THAT HE PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAMS WHILE INCARCERATED
His lawyers, led by criminal defense attorney Louis Shapiro, are seeking a three-year sentence with $2 million in restitution for his "very good" behavior since 2020.
Prosecutors in the United States have asked a federal judge to sentence Ramon 'Hushpuppi' Abbas to 11 years in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a multi-million dollar conspiracy between 2019 and 2020.
According to reports, American attorneys led by Khaldoun Shobaki in the United States District Court for the Central District of California (Los Angeles) argued that Hushpuppi should also be ordered to pay $1.7 million in restitution, $500K in fines, and $100 in administrative fees, per recommendations submitted ahead of his September 21 sentencing.
The news comes more than two years after the infamous Internet freud ringleader was apprehended in Dubai in June 2020 for running multiple schemes targeting victims in Europe and the United States. In April 2021, he pleaded guilty after prosecutors discovered his involvement in a separate conspiracy to defraud a Qatari businessperson, who lost $810K while attempting to obtain an elusive loan to establish an international school.
The prosecutors contended that their sentencing recommendations were appropriate in light of Hushpuppi's crimes. According to the government, one of his co-conspirators, Ghaleb Alaumary, was sentenced to 140 years in prison for violating the same set of criminal codes as him.
"By his own admission, defendant conspired to launder over $300 million in just 18 months," prosecutors said. The government claimed that Mr Abbas' criminal path was premeditated, despite the fact that he had a clear opportunity to choose a rewarding career as a law-abiding citizen.
The government argued that Mr Abbas' sentence was reduced because he cooperated with detectives on our criminal cases under investigation and prosecution in American courts.
