Viking Vs Bayern Munich: Report, Result And Goals
| Last-gasp Viking deny Bayern in six-goal thriller |
Harry Kane's ninth consecutive Champions League goal could not inspire Bayern Munich to victory as Herman Haugen's 90th-minute header earned Viking a sensational 3-3 draw against 10-man Bayern in a six-goal thriller in Norway.
Kane brace in vain as 10-man Bayern held by Viking...
Bayern Munich were denied a comeback victory as Viking snatched a dramatic 90th-minute equalizer to force a thrilling 3-3 draw, despite Harry Kane scoring in a ninth straight Champions League game with a brace.
Having watched his side concede after just eight seconds against Augsburg on Saturday, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany would have been hugely frustrated to see his team fall behind early once again.
The game was just over a minute old when Gianni Stensness rose highest to meet Zlatko Tripic's inswinging corner with a powerful downward header that beat the scrambling Jonas Urbig.
At the other end, Arild Ostbo was quickly called into action, denying Michael Olise and Luis Diaz in quick succession as Bayern pushed for an immediate response.
Viking continued to absorb long spells of Bayern pressure but remained a threat on the counter whenever they won the ball back.
That approach worked perfectly in the 38th minute, as Viking moved the ball forward quickly to release Peter Christiansen in behind, who calmly slotted past Urbig to give the hosts a shock two-goal advantage at the break that few could have seen coming.
It took just over a minute for the deadlock to be broken, as towering defender Gianni Stensness powered home Zlatko Tripic's inswinging corner with a downward header beyond the scrambling Jonas Urbig.
Ostbo at the other end was soon forced into action, keeping out efforts from Michael Olise and Luis Diaz in quick succession as Bayern looked for an instant reply.
Viking spent large parts of the half under Bayern pressure, but continued to look dangerous whenever they broke forward quickly after winning possession.
That tactic paid off perfectly in the 38th minute, when a rapid transition released Peter Christiansen in behind to coolly finish past Urbig and give the hosts a stunning two-goal lead at the interval that few inside the stadium could have anticipated.
A Kane goal, however, felt almost inevitable, and it arrived 10 minutes after the restart when he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Kristoffer Haugen was punished for a mistimed challenge on Konrad Laimer.
Lifted by his 80th goal in UEFA club competitions, Kane quickly added his 81st to restore parity, stealing in at the far post to head home Joshua Kimmich's delivery.
With Viking now on the back foot, the England captain turned provider, lifting a perfectly weighted pass into the area for Laimer to square for Diaz to tap in from close range.
The euphoria of completing the comeback was quickly dampened when Olise was shown a needless red card for two quick yellow cards, the second for throwing the ball into Tripic's face.

Reduced to 10 men, Bayern were forced to cling on, but their resistance was broken when Herman Haugen headed in at the far post from Tripic's deep cross to snatch a point and spark wild celebrations as Viking secured their first point of the league phase while halting Bayern's winning run in Europe.
