Kompany Slams Olise After Costly Red Card In Viking Draw
| Kompany and Kane blast Olise after Viking stalemate |
Vincent Kompany and Harry Kane have criticised Michael Olise after the Frenchman was sent off for throwing the ball at Viking captain Zlatko Tripic during Bayern Munich's frustrating 3-3 Champions League draw in Stavanger.
Olise to miss Arsenal clash after 'devastating' red card...
Norwegian TV were hailing it as the “Oktoberfest in Stavanger,” but there was little reason for FC Bayern to celebrate. The thrilling 3-3 (0-2) draw against Champions League newcomers Viking Stavanger ended in deep frustration for the Munich side.
French winger Michael Olise came in for particular criticism after picking up a needless second yellow card (74') for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Olise lost his composure following a duel and threw the ball at Viking captain Zlatko Tripic's head in frustration. At that stage Bayern had fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to lead 3-2, but were pegged back to a draw late on while a man down.
“This red card is so stupid. We addressed it clearly. Michael needs to keep better control of himself in those situations. He knows that. You could see that he felt sorry for the team. This was not a final or a semi-final today. But these moments are decisive over the course of a season,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in an interview with Prime Video.
“I also told Michael that the No. 10 was smarter,” Kompany continued. “Hopefully this will be one of those moments where you say: we learned from it and became stronger.”
Kane: Olise Must Learn From Red Card
Harry Kane, who netted twice on the night, did not hold back in his assessment. “Michael is absolutely devastated, but he has to take responsibility. He has to learn from it,” the striker said.
With Olise now set to miss next Wednesday's blockbuster clash with English champions Arsenal, Kane added: “We have some big Champions League games coming up. He will be devastated to miss them, but that's football.”
