Aston Villa produce Champions League masterclass in 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce...

Aston Villa became only the third English club this century to record 11 consecutive home victories in European competition, as a clinical first-half display secured a 6-0 win over Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League.

While Villa Park is accustomed to European victories, the hosts were required to show resilience before establishing a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Johan Manzambi marked his 21st birthday with the opening goal via a significant deflection off Milan Skriniar, after which the home side withstood three notable chances for the visitors before asserting full control of the contest.

Vedat Muriqi was denied an equaliser on two occasions by Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, while Oguz Aydin struck the crossbar from a narrow angle.

In contrast to Fenerbahce's lack of clinical edge, Nicolas Jackson demonstrated ruthless finishing, with the Senegalese forward netting twice in quick succession to secure the result for Aston Villa before the interval.

Following Boubacar Kamara's recovery of possession in the Fenerbahce half, Jackson drove a low effort across goal into the bottom corner, before replicating the finish from a similar position eight minutes later to double his tally.

Fenerbahce's efforts to limit further damage held for 23 minutes of the second half, until Manzambi's quick footwork drew a foul from Ismail Yuksek, who lunged in to bring down the Swiss midfielder inside the penalty area.

Ross Barkley calmly converted the resulting penalty into the bottom corner and added a fifth goal four minutes later, with another significant deflection leaving Ederson helpless in the Fenerbahce goal.

Despite their impressive home record in European competition, this result provided a much-needed boost for Aston Villa in front of their supporters, marking their first home victory of the season.

Furthermore, the result extends Fenerbahce's poor record against the English side, having now lost all four meetings without scoring, as substitute Tammy Abraham tapped home in stoppage time to complete the scoring.
