Paz stars as Como thrash woeful Man Utd in Champions League upset...

Nico Paz delivered a virtuoso performance as Como cruised to a memorable 4-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League, extending the Red Devils' winless run across all competitions to seven matches.

Contesting their first-ever competitive match against English opposition, Como could not have dreamt of a better start at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

For the second successive Champions League game, United found themselves behind inside two minutes, as Paz latched onto a pass from Lucas Da Cunha and bent a superb finish into the far corner from the edge of the area.

Chasing history as the first Italian side since Lazio in 1999/00 to win their opening two home games in the Champions League, Como stayed on the front foot, with Martin Baturina only denied by a superb last-ditch challenge from Harry Maguire.

Man United continued to struggle as the half wore on. Anastasios Douvikas tested Senne Lammens with a low strike at the near post, before blazing another presentable chance over the bar just minutes later.

The visitors did at least apply some pressure before the break, but Matheus Cunha's speculative effort from distance sailed harmlessly over the bar, as Como went in ahead at half-time.

Just as in the first half, Cesc Fabregas' side flew out of the blocks after the restart and doubled their lead in the 49th minute.

Paz turned provider on this occasion, slipping a clever pass through to Douvikas, who opened up his body to guide a composed finish beyond Lammens and into the corner.

A third arrived just eight minutes later, as the influential Paz grabbed his second of the night, pouncing on an error from substitute Carlos Baleba to race clear and slot calmly into the bottom corner.

It was damage limitation for United heading into the final half-hour, with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo both threatening from distance.

However, Como added further gloss to the scoreline in the 76th minute when Kaiki's inch-perfect cross was nodded in by an unmarked Jacobo Ramon from inside the six-yard box.

Michael Carrick's side restored a semblance of respectability in stoppage time through a well-taken finish from Joshua Zirkzee, but it did little to take the shine off Como's victory, as the Italian side made it two wins from three to start their debut Champions League campaign, leaving them three points better off than United.
