Tallon Griekspoor bounces back from Asian struggles to reach Brussels last four...
Tallon Griekspoor is through to his second ATP semi-final of the season after rallying to beat second seed Jiri Lehecka 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the European Open in Brussels.
After a miserable Asian swing that saw him crash out in the first round in Chengdu, Beijing and Shanghai, Griekspoor has rediscovered his touch on the indoor courts in Brussels, where he saw off Max Schoenhaus and Mariano Navone to reach the last eight.
Up against second seed Jiri Lehecka, Griekspoor came out firing and broke the world No. 12 early to race into a 2-0 lead, but the momentum quickly slipped. The Czech hit back with two breaks from three opportunities to surge 5-3 in front, and Griekspoor had no answer as he surrendered the first set after winning only 56% of his service points.
It was nip-and-tuck in the second, with neither man giving an inch until the final game, when Griekspoor finally pounced to snatch the set and force a decider, leaving Lehecka visibly frustrated.
Griekspoor dug deep defensively in the decider, refusing to let Lehecka flip the script as he fought off four break points at 2-1 and 3-2. Having survived the pressure, he turned the tables to lead 4-2, with his serve clicking back into gear, before sealing victory on his second match point with a roar of relief.
