Plzen vs SaiPa CHL

Plzen completed a perfect Champions Hockey League regular season with a sixth straight 60-minute win after beating SaiPa 6-3 in Finland, although the hosts also advance to the last 16 after a strong start to the campaign.

Plzen finished the Champions Hockey League regular season with a perfect record after defeating SaiPa in Finland...

The Czech side secured six wins from six regular-season games in 60 minutes with a 6-3 victory away at SaiPa, who still advance to the last 16 after winning three of their first five matches.

SaiPa began the night in 10th place with 10 points and had already secured a top-16 finish, joining fellow Finnish teams Tappara and KooKoo who confirmed their knockout spots the previous night. That qualification proved timely, as Plzen arrived top of the standings with a maximum 15 points from five games.

Despite having already qualified, the Czech champions showed no signs of easing off and secured a 6-3 win in Lappeenranta.

Plzen opened the scoring even while down a man, with Ivo Sedlacek netting shorthanded in the 14th minute. SaiPa's Otto Hokkanen equalized early in the second period, but Sedlacek restored the lead two minutes later with a power-play goal to complete his brace.

Janne Naukkarinen brought SaiPa level for a second time, but Plzen hit back quickly again through Jakub Lev to regain the advantage. SaiPa failed to mount another comeback in the third period, as Richard Zemlicka and Jan Fodor extended the lead with two goals inside the first six minutes.

Petr Fridrich reduced the deficit with less than two and a half minutes remaining, but any hopes of a late rally had already faded by the time Mikko Petman sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
