Perth Glory staff walk out as pay delays hit club for fifth time

Perth Glory staff walked out of the club's Mirrabooka headquarters after monthly wages were not processed on time, marking the fifth pay-related incident since Ross Pelligra's 2024 takeover.

Several Perth Glory staff members walked out of the club's headquarters in Mirrabooka at around 3pm local time on Thursday after their monthly wages were not paid on time.

The club has been embroiled in payment-related controversy since being sold to Melbourne property developer Ross Pelligra in 2024, with at least four previous cases of players and/or staff not receiving their wages on schedule.

Similar issues occurred in July, June and March of this year, as well as in October 2025, with the most recent incident prompting a club spokesperson to deny any broader financial problems at the club.

According to a source familiar with the situation, October's wages were due to be paid on Thursday evening after what the club described in an afternoon statement as “a timing issue.”

“The club is actively working to resolve the matter and ensure all outstanding salaries are paid as soon as possible,” Perth Glory said Thursday afternoon in response to the walkout.

Club owner Ross Pelligra had painted an optimistic picture at the club's season launch on Tuesday, updating members on the construction of women's and youth academy facilities in Embleton after the City of Bayswater Council disposed of land around Wotton Reserve for its development.

On the pitch, Perth Glory are hoping to build on promising progress under head coach Adam Griffiths, who took charge on an interim basis during the 2025/26 season and collected 30 points from 24 league games en route to a tenth-place finish.

The club now faces the tough challenge of replacing leading goalscorer Adam Taggart, who left in pre-season for an opportunity in Vietnam with Harry Kewell's Ha Noi FC, only to reportedly be pushed out of the squad by other foreign signings.
