Maresca: Man City Must Drown Out Financial Scandal Noise After Liverpool Win
Enzo Maresca insists Manchester City must “make their own noise” to drown out the distraction of their guilty verdict on over 100 Premier League financial charges, after a ruthless 3-0 win over 10-man Liverpool at Anfield kept his perfect start intact.
Man City beat Liverpool 3-0 as Maresca responds to financial charges guilty verdict...
Enzo Maresca says Manchester City must “make their own noise” to block out the distraction of being found guilty on more than 100 charges for breaching Premier League financial rules.
In their first outing since the bombshell verdict, City showed no signs of being affected by the uncertainty around possible sanctions, brushing aside a hostile atmosphere at Anfield to thrash 10-man Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday.
City manager Maresca has made a flawless start to the formidable task of succeeding Pep Guardiola.
The Italian has won all eight of his matches across competitions to move City three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
However, the fate of their title challenge is likely to hinge on the result of the club's appeal against the independent commission's verdict.
“It was not easy for the players after the last two or three weeks but they dealt with the situation very good,” said Maresca.
“I said during the week we need to lean how to deal with the outside noise, but make our own noise, which is to win games.
“Our fans were singing at the end, so the noise was from us.”
City seized full advantage after Ryan Gravenberch's red card on the hour shifted the momentum decisively in their favour.
Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all scored within a 13-minute burst following Gravenberch's dismissal, as City secured only their second win in front of fans at Anfield since 2003.

“To win 3-0 at Anfield is a great result for sure. In this moment all the organisation needs this kind of win,” added Maresca.
“It's good for us as a coaching staff, the players, the organisation. This kind of win is good for all the club.”
Maresca also dismissed suggestions that the uncertainty over whether the three points will ultimately count come the end of the season had dampened his celebrations.
“You cannot imagine how happy I am,” he said.
“I am here to try to prepare the games and win the games. Hopefully, I can speak about this situation when we win the appeal.”
The defeat was Andoni Iraola's first since taking charge of Liverpool, but his side now sit ninth, nine points adrift of the top.
The Reds were hampered by the absence of injured trio Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.
Iraola, however, felt Liverpool were the better team until Gravenberch's controversial dismissal for two quick yellow cards.
A disappointing result but thank you for your support at Anfield today 👏 https://t.co/CrRIkzthMn

“There were two different games. One until the red card and one from the red card until the end,” said the Spaniard.
“We were the better team until the red card and they were better than us obviously after and scored the goals.”
