Lionesses Boss Wiegman Commits Future To England Until Euro 2029

Sarina Wiegman signs new two-year England contract extension

England Women's head coach Sarina Wiegman has expressed her delight after committing her future to the Lionesses until 2029, with her new deal also covering Olympic qualification.

“We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil...”

Sarina Wiegman says she is “so happy“ after extending her stay as England Women's head coach with a new two-year deal that will keep her in charge until after Euro 2029, the FA confirmed on Monday.

Since her appointment in September 2021, the Dutchwoman has guided the Lionesses to back-to-back European titles in 2022 and 2025, while also leading them to their first-ever Women's World Cup final in 2023.

The 56-year-old Dutch coach has now made five straight major finals, having also lifted the Euros with the Netherlands in 2017.

“I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football,” Wiegman said on Monday.

Beaten by Spain in the 2023 World Cup final in Australia, England must now overcome Ukraine in a two-legged play-off in November and December to book their place at next year's finals in Brazil.

“Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come,” Wiegman added.

“We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year.”
