Real Madrid cruised to an eighth straight LaLiga victory at home with a 4-1 win over Sevilla at the Bernabeu, cutting Barcelona's lead at the top back to six points.

Los Blancos turned their focus back to domestic action after their thrilling 4-3 Champions League fightback against Roma, with Jose Mourinho's men aiming to keep pace with leaders Barcelona following their win on Saturday.

After seeing their rivals lay down a marker, it was a moment of brilliance from Arda Guler that gave the hosts the lead on 30 minutes. Jude Bellingham spread the play to Yan Diomande, who found the Turkish youngster to lift a superb looping effort over Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Sevilla's goalkeeper kept out Kylian Mbappe with an outstretched leg shortly after, but Real's leading scorer did not have to wait long to get on the scoresheet. Bellingham flicked the ball into his path with a deft backheel, and the Frenchman showed superb footwork to take it in his stride and slot home from close range, just seven minutes after Guler's opener.

Thibaut Courtois had been a virtual spectator at the other end, until he produced a superb one-handed stop to deny Lucien Agoume's effort in first-half stoppage time.

There was a hint of encouragement for the visitors after the break when Felix Correia saw a speculative shot deflect over the bar, but it was Real who struck next from the penalty spot. Diomande threaded a pass through to Mbappe, who was clipped from behind by Castrin inside the area. Referee Mateo Busquets pointed to the spot and Mbappe calmly chipped a Panenka past Vlachodimos.

AC Milan loanee Youssouf Fofana tried to reduce the arrears, with Courtois again called upon to push away his effort from just outside the area.

The visitors were not ready to give in, and Manuel Bueno gave Sevilla a glimmer of hope of an unlikely comeback when he punished some careless Real defending with a clinical left-footed finish.

In the end it was only a consolation, as Diomande rounded off another fine performance with a fierce strike of his own just two minutes later to restore the hosts' three-goal cushion.

It was an emphatic way for Mourinho's side to claim a sixth win in seven games in all competitions (L1) and move above Real Betis into third, ahead of next week's Clasico against Barcelona.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are now without a win in 16 LaLiga meetings between the sides (D2 L14) and stay sixth after a third league defeat of the season.
