Fenerbahce extended their winless streak to 10 matches in the main phase of the UEFA Champions League after squandering a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with Slavia Prague in Istanbul - a result that also leaves the Czech side without a win in their last 22 matches in the competition proper.
Despite boasting several seasoned Champions League campaigners in their ranks, it was one of their European newcomers who opened the scoring early, as Oguz Aydin cut in from the right flank and curled a pinpoint strike into the top corner beyond the reach of Jakub Markovic.
The Turkish side maintained their relentless pressure and made it 2-0 on 11 minutes, as Nelson Semedo found Mason Greenwood inside the box, with the forward taking one touch to set himself before rifling a volley past the keeper.
The hosts then undid much of their hard work when Matteo Guendouzi gifted possession away with a blind pass on the edge of his own box to Lukas Provod, who made no mistake in sweeping the ball home to cut the deficit.
The frantic tempo eased after that whirlwind start, but Fenerbahce still carved out two clear chances to restore their two-goal lead before the break.
The first chance fell to Guendouzi, who fired an effort just over the crossbar, before Aydin came close to adding a second for the night when he curled another shot narrowly wide of the target.
The Turkish side would have been wary of those missed opportunities proving costly after the interval, and they almost did within 10 minutes of the restart, as Provod found too much space on the edge of the box but dragged his left-footed strike wide to the hosts' relief.
