Tournament organisers said the package also sets a new Grand Slam benchmark for first-round prize money, with that amount rising 27% to $140,000 this year.
The new payout structure was unveiled not long after the sport’s four majors jointly announced the launch of a Grand Slam Player Council. The council is meant to give players more input on key issues, including prize money.
