Brentford Beat Tottenham 3-0 In Premier League opener...
Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham overhaul didn’t get off to the best start, with Spurs thumped 3-0 by Brentford on the opening day of the Premier League season.
After splashing big in the transfer window, Tottenham’s slow start in west London made for underwhelming viewing.
Brentford had spurned a few chances before they finally made the breakthrough, and it was their record signing who helped create it. Mamadou Sangare linked with Dango Ouattara on a slick one-two, then pulled it back for Keane Lewis-Potter to finish first-time.
Brentford kept coming in the opening stages, and only the crossbar denied them a second. Igor Thiago met the ball with a powerful header but saw it bounce off the woodwork.
Spurs were all over the place and were lucky not to be two down just after the half-hour. Ouattara was through on goal but let himself down with a poor first touch in front of Kinsky.
Kinsky was at fault for Brentford’s second. The goalkeeper spilled Jensen’s fierce shot and Janelt was on hand to roll it into the empty net.
De Zerbi rolled the dice with a double change at half-time hoping to shift momentum. It backfired instantly as Brentford made it 3-0 within five minutes of the restart.
A half-cleared corner fell to Sangare who drilled it at goal. Kinsky got a hand to it, but Kayode was first to the rebound to tap in from close range.
It could have been 4-0 when Bentancur, on as a sub, brought down Schade in the box. But Igor Thiago hit the post from the spot.
Mikey Moore had three chances to pull one back for Spurs, but Kelleher denied him every time.
De Zerbi threw everything forward, bringing on all his attackers in a last push to get something from the game. It made no difference as Spurs slumped to defeat, just their second loss in 11 Premier League opening fixtures.

Brentford couldn’t have asked for a better start. Three points were made even sweeter by it being their first ever league victory over Spurs at this ground.
