Ed Oliver Returns To Bills After Son’s Tragic Death In June

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver lost his 2-year-old son in late June after a tragic drowning in a pool.
Oliver has since returned to practice and featured in Buffalo’s 29-14 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers. He sat out the team’s 31-7 win over the Cleveland Browns this weekend with an undisclosed injury.
His son was found unresponsive in a residential pool north of Houston on June 28. The Harris County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the tragedy but did not name Oliver or his family.
The 28-year-old is entering his eighth season with Buffalo after being taken No. 9 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
He appeared in just three games in 2025, recording 3 sacks and 12 tackles before a biceps injury ended his season early.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane honored Oliver and his son before Saturday’s preseason game against the Browns.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Beane said.
“It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we grieve this tragic loss.”
QB Josh Allen vowed the Bills will rally around their “grieving” teammate and “love up on” him.
"There's nothing that you can say to make the situation better except being there for Ed in whatever way he needs,” Allen said.
“We want to rally around him to let him know that we have his back and we're here for him.
“The way that he has dealt with it has been unbelievable.”
