Netherlands World Cup 2026 squad, Kluivert called up, Frimpong left out...
The KNVB has released Ronald Koeman’s 26-man Netherlands squad for the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Memphis Depay, the Netherlands’ all-time leader in goals and assists, recovered from a hamstring injury in time for the tournament. Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber is also in the squad despite earlier doubts from Koeman about his fitness.
Koeman also called up Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert after several months out with injury. Kluivert should add depth to Oranje’s attacking midfield, with Tottenham’s Xavi Simons unavailable after tearing his ACL in April.
Simons is one of two key midfielders ruled out of the tournament with ACL injuries. PSV captain Jerdy Schouten is also out for the same reason.
A teammate of Schouten was not included in Koeman’s 55-man preliminary squad. Veerman has not played for the Netherlands since Euro 2024 and recently criticized Koeman’s handling of the situation. “If you keep holding press conferences like that and saying I’m not a good person, then at some point I’ll just have had enough. He doesn’t need to call me anymore,” Veerman told ESPN.
Marten de Roon returns to the Oranje squad after his last appearance for the Netherlands in March 2024. The Atalanta captain takes the place of Schouten and Veerman in the 26-man squad.
PSV’s Guus Til is another returning player. The 6-time international has played just one game for the Netherlands since June 2022.
Stefan de Vrij and Jeremie Frimpong are other notable omissions from the squad.
