Czech star Karolina Muchova ends six-year title, she defeats Victoria Mboko 6-4, 7-5 to win the Qatar Open, securing her first WTA 1000 title.

“I'd like to congratulate Victoria. You're still a teenager but you play with so much maturity. I'm sure you have many titles ahead of you.”

Karolina Muchova has finally ended her six-year title drought, winning the Qatar Open with a thrilling 6-4, 7-5 victory over Victoria Mboko. This marks her first WTA 1000 title and second career title, following her 2019 Korea Open win.

The 29-year-old Czech player showed incredible resilience, coming back from a tough semi-final match against Maria Sakkari just a day earlier. Her impressive performance earned her a spot in the top 11 of the WTA rankings, jumping eight spots.

“It's been a while since I won a tournament, so it's nice to get that feeling again, to be reminded of that victory feeling again,” said Muchova during the trophy ceremony.

“I'd like to congratulate Victoria. You're still a teenager but you play with so much maturity. I'm sure you have many titles ahead of you.”

Karolina Muchova, a former French Open finalist, has turned her career around in 2026, boasting a 12-2 win-loss record over the past six weeks. Despite being hampered by injuries, she's on a roll, and her Doha title run has catapulted her from 19th to 11th in the world rankings.

Victoria Mboko, on the other hand, has guaranteed herself a top-10 debut on Monday, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat since Serena Williams. Mboko's impressive run in Doha includes victories over top players like Elena Rybakina and Jelena Ostapenko.

Muchova dominated the opening set, landing 75% of her first serves and dropping just three points behind them. She faced zero break points in the 43-minute set, showcasing her impressive net game and setting herself up for a strong start.

The Czech star's clean play gave her a solid foundation to build on, and she continued to impress in the second set.

Victoria Mboko made a strong comeback in the second set, decoding Karolina Muchova's serve to take a 4-2 lead. However, Muchova quickly turned the tables, breaking Mboko's serve twice to secure a 6-4, 7-5 win in just 94 minutes.

Mboko, just 19, has been on a tear this season, racking up 13 wins and only three losses, making her the most prolific winner on the women's tour. Her impressive run will earn her a top-10 debut, rising to number 10 in the world on Monday.

“It's not the outcome I wanted but I think there's many positives to take away,” said Mboko, who was competing in her fourth WTA final, and second at the 1000 level.
