Luis Enrique: 'We'll Recover Our Players and Our Level'
| Luis Enrique urges calm amid PSG's injury crisis |
PSG's 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League marked more than just their first defeat of the season - it also highlighted the team's growing injury woes, a trend that has plagued the European champions throughout the campaign.
“I can't remember a single match with the whole squad fit. It's a different kind of season, and we have to manage that...”
Paris Saint-Germain's 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League has added to the club's growing injury concerns. The match saw Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi leave the field with injuries, further exacerbating the team's fitness issues.
Luis Enrique revealed that he can't recall a single match this season where he has had the entire squad available. Dembele, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, was forced off with a calf problem, while Hakimi suffered a foot injury after a tackle from Bayern's Luis Diaz. The team's injury woes have been compounded by the absence of several key players, including Marquinhos, Joao Neves, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, and Fabian Ruiz.
Despite the setbacks, Luis Enrique remains calm and confident that PSG will overcome their injury problems. “I'm calm and relaxed because I know we'll overcome all of this,”he said. “We’ll get our players back and we'll find our level again.” Enrique emphasized the need for careful management of player recovery to avoid re-injury and ensure they return to peak condition.
PSG confirmed that Achraf Hakimi has severely sprained his left ankle, while Ousmane Dembele has suffered a left calf injury. Nuno Mendes, who played the full 90 minutes, has also sprained his left knee. All three players are expected to be out for several weeks.
Luis Enrique, the PSG manager, acknowledged the injury blow, stating, “I can't remember a single match with the whole squad fit. It's a different kind of season, and we have to manage that. I'm calm and confident we'll recover our players and our level.” The latest setbacks come at a time when the squad was starting to gel and find stability.
Injury Update: Dembele and Hakimi
Ousmane Dembele, who had previously missed seven games with a hamstring injury, made his first Champions League start of the season but was forced off after 25 minutes due to a calf problem. Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi was seen on crutches after suffering a severe ankle sprain during the match against Bayern Munich.
Dembele's Injury Not a Relapse
Luis Enrique reassured that Ousmane Dembele's calf injury is not a relapse of his previous hamstring issue. “The injury has nothing to do with the previous one,” he said. “He played the time you saw - it's not a relapse.” Dembele was forced off after 25 minutes, and tests later confirmed the extent of his injury.
Hakimi Suffers Ankle Injury
Achraf Hakimi was also forced to leave the match early after a tackle from Bayern's Luis Diaz, who was sent off for the challenge. Hakimi, one of PSG's few regulars to have avoided injury this season, left the pitch in tears and was later seen exiting the stadium on crutches with a protective boot on his left foot. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.
The injuries to Dembele and Hakimi add to a growing list of absentees for PSG, which already includes Marquinhos, Joao Neves, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, and Fabian Ruiz. Doue is currently out with a right thigh muscle injury that will keep him sidelined for several more weeks.

The club's injury woes are likely a result of the demanding schedule they faced last season, which saw them play 65 matches and win four trophies, including the Champions League. With their season extending into mid-July and little time for rest before the new campaign began, the physical toll is starting to show.
PSG's Injury Woes Won't Derail Them
“When you recover injured players, they're not at 100%. That's something I need to manage better,” Luis Enrique conceded. “It's a long season, and it's about how you handle these moments.”
Paris Saint-Germain currently tops Ligue 1 and sits third in the Champions League group stage with nine points from four games. Despite being plagued by injuries, the team remains focused, and coach Luis Enrique exudes confidence. “I'm calm and relaxed because I know we'll overcome all of this," he said. “We'll get our players back and we'll find our level again.” With key players like Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembele sidelined, Enrique's measured tone suggests he's determined to navigate the challenges and emerge stronger.
