64th Independence Day Awards: President Tinubu Awards National Honours to Senate President, CJN, Akpabio, Others.

President Bola Tinubu marked Nigeria's 64th Independence Day with a significant announcement, elevating key government officials to higher National Honours. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun were conferred with the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Other prominent recipients of national honors include:

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin: awarded the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR)

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas: also received the CFR

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu: honored with the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).

These recognitions acknowledge their vital roles in the legislative and judicial branches of the government. Tinubu's announcement was part of his national address, highlighting the country's progress and future aspirations.

President Bola Tinubu announced that the federal government will continue its tradition of releasing the full list of National Honours recipients, which will be made public soon. This revelation came during his national address celebrating Nigeria's 64th Independence Day, where he also conferred higher National Honours on key government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The upcoming list will likely recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria's development, similar to how other countries honor their notable citizens, such as Singapore's National Day Medals.

“The Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation have been conferred with the honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON. The deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives have the honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, CFR, while the deputy speaker of the House has been awarded Commander of the Order of Niger, CON,” Tinubu stated.
