The 2024 HP Work Relationship Index (WRI) reveals a significant surge in AI adoption among workers, with usage skyrocketing 66% from 38% in the previous year.

This second annual report offers a comprehensive overview of the global work experience in 2024. Key findings indicate that employees leveraging AI are reaping benefits, including improved job satisfaction and a more positive work-life balance.

A comprehensive study by HP, surveying 15,600 participants across 12 countries, reveals a significant 66% increase in AI adoption among workers this year. The research spanned various sectors in the US, France, India, UK, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and Indonesia.

Despite this technological progress, the study highlights room for improvement in work environments. Only 28% of knowledge workers reported a healthy relationship with their work, marking a modest uptick from last year's findings. This indicates that organizations still face challenges in fostering positive and productive workplaces.

The surge in AI adoption hints at its potential to revolutionize the work experience, making it more tailored and efficient. By leveraging AI, employees can enjoy a more personalized and streamlined work environment.

AI's benefits are clear: 73% of respondents say it simplifies their work, while 69% strategically use AI to supercharge productivity. These findings underscore AI's transformative power in enhancing job satisfaction and efficiency.

HP Incorporated's President and CEO, Enrique Lores, emphasized the shifting landscape of workplace expectations. “We know employer and employee expectations have evolved, and we believe smart technology is key to meeting the needs of today's workforce,” he stated.

Lores envisioned a future where AI-driven solutions empower both businesses and individuals. “The future of work will be unlocked by using the power of AI to create solutions and experiences that drive business growth and enable individuals to achieve personal and professional fulfillment.”

The HP study uncovered a pressing demand for personalized work experiences, with at least two-thirds of workers seeking:
  • Customized workspaces
  • Access to preferred technologies
  • Flexible working arrangements

Lores' remarks underscore the critical role of technology in addressing these needs and fostering a fulfilling work environment.

Personalized work experiences are vital for fostering positive relationships between employees and their work, ultimately benefiting both individuals and organizations. According to the HP study, tailored work environments:

  1. Boost employee engagement
  2. Drive business growth
  3. Enhance job satisfaction

The research reveals striking statistics:

64% of knowledge workers would be more invested in their company's success if their work was personalized.
87% of knowledge workers would trade part of their salary for customized work experiences.

Salary Sacrifice for Personalization

Workers are willing to trade off a significant portion of their pay for personalized work experiences. On average, employees would forfeit 14% of their salary. Gen Z employees are particularly willing, sacrificing up to 19%.
