Man City Battles Chelsea, Coventry Plays Man United In The FA Cup Semifinals

With Sunday's draw for the final four, there was a chance that the all-Manchester FA Cup final from the previous season—which City won 2-1—would happen again.

The winners of the FA Cup, Manchester City, will play Chelsea in the semi-finals at Wembley, while Manchester United will play second-tier Coventry as a reward for their exciting victory over Liverpool.

The treble-chasing City defeated Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday to cruise to the semi-finals.

Chelsea defeated Championship contenders Leicester 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, needing two goals in stoppage time.

Thanks to a last-minute goal in extra time by Amad Diallo, United defeated Liverpool 4-3 at Old Trafford on Sunday after falling down 2-1 and 3-2 earlier in the match.

“To go to the final we have to win against Coventry, we will have to play at our best. We saw that Coventry have great spirit, a great mentality. We will prepare our best to play in the final,” United manager Erik ten Hag said.

Former United striker Mark Robins, who helped the Old Trafford team win the competition in 1990 by scoring a pivotal winner against Nottingham Forest, is the manager of Coventry.

Many people believe that this particular goal kept Alex Ferguson's job as United manager.

Relegated from the Premier League in 2001, Coventry has had difficult years since winning the FA Cup in 1987 with a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Tottenham.

Chelsea last won the FA Cup in 2018, and United is looking to win it for the first time since 2016.

FA Cup Semifinals Schedule

The English FA Cup semi-final draw was held on Sunday:

Coventry v Manchester United

Manchester City v Chelsea

Ties to be played at Wembley on the weekend of April 20-21.
