Third Edo APC Governorship Candidate Emerges
Three APC candidates have emerged for Edo state governor, leaving confusion in their wake.
Three candidates have emerged as front-runners for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket, throwing the Edo State governorship primary into disarray.
Confusion and uncertainty have been brought about by the contradictory statements, casting doubt on the validity of the initial procedure.
Dennis Idahosa was first declared the winner by the Governor Hope Uzodimma governorship primary committee, which caused confusion.
However, the unrest intensified when Monday Okpebholo was proclaimed the winner of the same election by Stanley Ugboaje, the Returning Officer.
The confusion got worse late on Saturday night when Anamero Dekeri was declared the winner by local government return officers.
The local government returning officers report that Anamero Dekeri, who is presently serving as the representative for the Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives, received 25,384 votes, more than Dennis Idahosa, who received 14,127 votes.
This development raises questions about the legitimacy of the primary process and exposes internal party divides as it leaves the APC with three candidates running for Edo State governor.
The contradictory statements cast doubt on the party's capacity to put up a united front in the approaching September 21 governorship election.
The national secretariat of the party has not yet released an official statement regarding the situation.
