Economic Hardship: States Didn't Receive N30 Billion From FG, Makinde Responds To Akpabio
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has countered the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, saying that the federal government did not give State money to curb food scarcity.
Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has refuted claims that the 36 state governors got a total of thirty billion naira each to alleviate the current hardships in their individual states.
Makinde was reacting to recent claims made by Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, that the Governors had received 30 billion naira from the federal government, according to an unverified report.
The Governor who reacted to this during the commissioning of Iseyin Central Mosque in Iseyin, questioned why Senator Akpabio would make such a statement knowing well that it was unverified information.
The funds in the Federation account are meant for the benefit of Nigerians, not for distribution among the states, he emphasized, adding that it is not possible for the Federal Inland Revenue Service to issue money to any state.
The governor emphasized that rather than escalating political tensions, the government must use this crucial time to restore the people's confidence.
