However, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the lead with a strong penalty kick in the second half. Ultimately, the Super Eagles prevailed 1-0 in the game.

With four points from two games, Peseiro's team now sits second in Group A as a result of the outcome.

Having played the same number of games, Ivory Coast has three points, good for third place. Guinea-Bissau is in fourth place with no points, while Equatorial Guinea leads the group with a goal differential over Nigeria. Nigeria's final group match will now take place in the coming days against Guinea-Bissau.
