President Tinubu directs all impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor

President Tinubu orders the immediate termination of all impeachment procedures against Governor Fubara that the Rivers State House of Assembly, under Speaker Martin's leadership, had started.

Governor Sim Fubara has been instructed by President Tinubu to acknowledge Martin Amaewhule as Speaker and the other twenty-six Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives.

Additionally, Tinubu ordered that their salaries be paid right away.

President Tinubu called a meeting at the State House in Abuja to discuss the political situation in Rivers State. He also ordered the withdrawal of all court cases that the governor had started, while acknowledging the leadership of Hon. Martin Amaewhule and the 27 lawmakers who had defected.

The meeting resulted in a document that said, “All legal actions brought about the political crisis in Rivers State by Sir Fubara, the governor, and his team will be immediately withdrawn from the courts.”

The meeting also mandated that the names of the commissioners who quit from Governor Fubara's cabinet be added back in.

“The names of all commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned their appointments because of the political crisis in the state should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval,” says the document.

The document was signed by Governor Fubara, his deputy, Amaewhule, and the state chairsmen of the APC and PDP.

Former Rivers State governor Dr. Peter Odili, a prominent political figure, and Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, were present at the meeting.

Deputy Governor of the state Ngozi Odu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Vice President Kashim Shettima were also present.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) called for new elections after Edison Ehie, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, declared the seats of the lawmakers who had defected vacant.
