Atitku Abubakar And The Culture Of Humilitating Service

His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential contender for 2023, has turned 77 years old. It's often said that what matters is how well, not how long. Even though he is still very much alive and well, Atiku Abubakar has left behind contributions that will last forever and ingrain his name into the annals of history.

The Waziri Adamawa, a native of Jada, lost his father at a young age. However, he vowed not to let that loss ruin his life. Before beginning to work for Nigeria Customs and Excise in 1969, he established himself and completed his schooling. Atiku Abubakar was a highly regarded employee in the service because of his humble demeanor and captivating charm. He worked diligently and submitted to his superiors at all times. He advanced to one of the top ranks in the paramilitary force throughout his time in the service. In order to pursue his declared goal of having a beneficial impact on people, he left the customs service in the early 1990s.

Atiku Abubakar became a member of the PDM, a political organization that the late General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua created and that served as a focal point for the movement to remove the military from political power and restore democratic government to the nation.

Yar Adua and numerous other proponents of democracy lost their lives in that battle, some of whom were forced into exile. In 1999, Atiku Abubakar emerged as Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, maybe as a reward for his tenacity, resolve, and unwavering allegiance. He had withstood the military jackboot's authoritarian onslaught during that time.

When he left Adamawa Provincial Secondary School to Kano School of Hygiene, he at the same time read for A Levels which admitted him into the famous Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria where he earned a diploma in Law in 1969. It was during the period that his interest in leadership and public service began to take root and fester as he was elected Assistant Secretary General and Speaker of the Students' Union Government of ABU. This undoubtedly enriched his young political mind and prepared him for the many political ventures and battles he has fought. The former vice-president upon retirement went into private business before launching into an active political career. His businesses have recorded recorded outstanding successes. 

The various businesses have also employed a myriad of people, reducing unemployment in our country. And so when those in power see his looming political credentials and set out to cripple his businesses, the God of providence fights for him, and restoration comes like day after night. His businesses houe hean have been growing from strength to strength, leveraging him to continue with his unbridled work of philanthropy. 

Waziri Adamawa's philanthropy is boldly imprinted in many facets of life. He is a man endowed with a strong community spirit. He has helped communities build schools, mosques, and churches across the nation. Education, which is an instrument of liberation, boasts countless support from the former vice-president. He founded the prestigious American University of Nigeria, Yola, and recently ceded ownership to the community.
