EPL: Lampard Names The Chelsea Goalkeeper He Trusts
In response to Mendy's mistakes...
Edouard Mendy is the goalkeeper he trusts, according to interim Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
Lampard was responding to the goalkeeper's oversight on Saturday in the Premier League that resulted in their 2-2 tie with Nottingham Forest.
Despite the mistakes, Lampard showed unshakeable confidence in the Senegalese.
Mendy hesitated, allowing Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest to score the opening goal after the keeper failed to try a punch-out.
Raheem Sterling's equalizing goal for Chelsea early in the second half, however, appeared to change the momentum.
The England forward scored a spectacular solo goal to make it 2-1, but Mendy was unable to give the Blues the advantage they needed to win.
He could only observe as Awoniyi quickly followed Sterling's brace by scoring his second.
But Lampard backed the goalie after the match, asserting that he was the one in whom he had the most confidence.
"We've got two good goalkeepers. Edou has been training really well. He's a goalkeeper we trust, so he started," Lampard said at his post- match press conference.
"They (the errors) can happen. You're disappointed with them but they can happen. One player scores, you don't spend all week recreating that moment because that can happen."
