THE LABOUR PARTY NEC SUSPENDS ACTING CHAIRMAN, APAPA, FIVE OTHERS
The Labour Party's National Executive Council (NEC) has suspended the Acting National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa, and five others for anti-party conduct.
Alh. Saleh Lawal, Deputy National Secretary; Rawland Daramola, National Financial Secretary; Prince Reuben Favour, National Vice-Chairman, South-South; Secretary; Samuel Akingbade, National Legal Adviser; and Mohammed Akali, National Vice-Chairman, North-East, are among those suspended.
Their suspension was not explained.
The NEC also reiterated and upheld the Akure convention's decision to expel the party's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi.
Apapa and five others took over the activities of the party on April 6, 2023, following a Federal High Court judgement that barred Julius Abure and three others from parading themselves as party chairman.
Acting on the court's restraining order, Apapa, the Vice Chairman, South, took control of the party until the court order was lifted.
However, after a meeting in Asaba, Delta state's capital, the NEC suspended Apapa and his acting executive.
At the meeting, it gave the Abure-led NWC a vote of confidence.
Members of the National Working Committee, State Chairmen, State Secretaries, the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, National Assembly members-elect, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) all attended the NEC meeting.
The NEC also extended the current National Working Committee of the party's mandate by one year.
