Napoli survive Bodo/Glimt scare in Champions League seven-goal classic...
Napoli finally got off the mark in this season's UEFA Champions League with a pulsating 4-3 home win over Bodo/Glimt, a result that leaves both sides on three points from three matches and brings the visitors' four-game winning streak in all competitions to an end.
Desperate to avoid four straight European defeats for the first time in their history, Napoli could not have asked for a better start. With just 53 seconds gone, Leonardo Spinazzola surged down the left and delivered a cross that Matteo Politano volleyed home.
Vintage reflexes from Bodo/Glimt keeper Nikita Haikin kept the score down in the early stages, as he got down smartly to keep out efforts from Noa Lang and Giovanni Di Lorenzo. He was helped by Jostein Gundersen, whose crucial deflection diverted Scott McTominay’s driving effort wide.
Napoli’s dominance showed no signs of easing, with both Rasmus Hojlund and Lang sent clean through. Hojlund could only find the side-netting, however, while Lang was once again denied by the impressive Haikin.
That one-way traffic was abruptly halted when Sondre Brunstad Fet slipped the ball into the left side of the Napoli box, where Jens Petter Hauge arrived to guide a composed finish into the bottom corner equalising with Bodo/Glimt’s first real chance.
The Norwegians almost turned the game on its head moments later, as Ole Didrik Blomberg beat Alex Meret to a ball over the top. The Napoli keeper recovered brilliantly, though, scrambling back to smother Blomberg’s cut-back.
A third goal did arrive before the break, but it went to Napoli, as Kevin De Bruyne threaded an inch-perfect ball through for Scott McTominay to poke beyond Haikin via a deflection.
Bodo/Glimt had managed just 13 attempts over the first two matchdays only Lille had fewer, but they were far more threatening at the start of the second half. They lacked a clinical edge, however, with Ole Didrik Blomberg heading wide from four yards before Sondre Auklend failed to prod past Meret from similarly close range.
Those misses almost proved costly when De Bruyne and McTominay linked up again, only for the Scot’s effort to cannon back off the post.
Instead, it was Napoli who were left to rue their wastefulness, as Fet claimed his second assist of the night, slipping a pass through for Andreas Helmersen to create space and fire past Meret.
Meret then palmed away a fierce strike from Patrick Berg, while at the other end Haikin was well-placed to gather an effort from Lang as both sides pushed for a winner. With 15 minutes remaining, Gli Azzurri edged ahead for a third time, Politano delivering a superb cross for the leaping McTominay to power home with his head.

Kjetil Knutsen’s men pushed hard for a third equaliser late on, only to gift possession deep inside their own half. Giovane pounced and rolled the ball across goal, where Odin Luras Bjortuft could only divert it into his own net.

Sondre Fet did pull one back with a thunderous finish into the top corner, but it was too little, too late. It marks just a third away defeat in nine Champions League games for Bodo/Glimt, while Napoli boss Massimiliano Allegri ended a five-match losing run in the competition.
